As soon as we arrived in New Orleans, we were ready to dig into the food the city is famous for. Our visit to the WWII Museum would begin the next day, but that evening was all about enjoying the flavors and drinks of the Big Easy. Our first stop was Cochon, conveniently close to our hotel. Set in what felt like a converted warehouse in an old industrial area, it had plenty of brick, high ceilings, and lots of character. With so many tempting options on the menu, I settled on the gumbo and a small plate of meat pie which was a perfect choice, since I was in the mood for gumbo. The gumbo was dark, smoky, and packed with chicken andĀ AndouilleĀ sausage, and it was excellent. The meat pie, with its medium crust and rich braised beef filling, was just as satisfying. I even had a glass of wine, heaven forbid, to go with it. It was a great way to start the trip.
