August at the coast is brutal. Especially when you are sightseeing in a city without a whisk of wind. So we were glad that the lunchtime hour arrived to give us a little respite from the heat. Luckily, The Chelsea was at hand and met our desire for air conditioning and a fine meal. Started with a lager and then moved on to the vittles. I had delicious barbecue shrimp, apple-smoked bacon, tomatoes, and scallions. All was over creamy grits with brown butter barbecue sauce. It was picture-perfect from start to finish. Go yourself if you are in the area and playing tourist. You won’t regret it!
(Our wanderings in New Bern were interesting. I went to the NC Historical Museum, which was somewhat of a bust for me in terms of conveying the original colonial settlement. Just wasn’t much there. The rest of the exhibits were a fractured history lesson at best, but at least it had some AC. Tryon Palace was well worth it, as well as a stroll around town to the other sites, so all was not lost!)
