Location/Directions

Ebiked New River Trail again. This time I did not go left at Fries Junction but spun off right. Glad I did because after about 4 or so miles afterward, I was rewarded by the Windy River CafĂ©. I got there around 11:45 and just in time for lunch. Supposedly Stromboli is their #1 order, but I went with the waitress’s sandwich choice of a Chuckwagon. Now I have not had one of these in a blue moon, and when it did arrive, my viewing expectations did a full kilt toward the land of negatory. A miserable-looking fried piece of meat surrounded by a slice of tomato and some lettuce with a whiff of mayonnaise. Not only that, but the side looked like prefab onion rings. However, I was utterly amazed upon the first bite of both. They more than amply suited the palate, and I washed it all down with half&half tea. It was a delight, except I was mortified that after all this fried food feasting since I had another 25 miles to get back to the ole 4runner. Woe was me! However, I will be back to the WRC and hope you will make this a stop too. It is located basically at the trail’s end in Fries.

(Scenery was spectacular on the trail, and the temp and humidity was dang near perfect for this time of the year. Also, I visited the historical Shot Tower, where shotgun pellets were made in the early 19th century. Incredible outing!)
